Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Perseus ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website and services. It applies to visitors, alpha testers, and account holders.

1. Information we collect

Account information. When you register, we collect email address, authentication identifiers, and optional profile data from your auth provider (for example if you sign in with Google). We may store MFA enrollment status.

Invite and alpha access. If you use an invite code, we store redemption records tied to your account for access control.

Uploaded and generated media.

• Source uploads — long-form files you upload are processed on our infrastructure and deleted after processing completes (they are not kept as part of your permanent library).
• Clips and derivatives — outputs such as rendered clips, captioned versions, thumbnails, and cover images you save are stored until you delete them.
• Job metadata — transcripts, scores, edit settings, clip boundaries, and similar processing data stored with your job records.

Publishing data. If you connect social accounts, we store account identifiers, display names, and encrypted OAuth tokens needed to publish on your behalf. We store publish queue records (captions, schedule times, status, platform post IDs).

Usage and technical data. We collect logs and diagnostics (IP address, browser type, timestamps, API errors, storage usage) to operate, secure, and improve the service. Our hosting providers may collect similar technical data.

Cookies and local storage. We use cookies and similar technologies for session authentication, OAuth state, security, and preferences. See your browser settings to limit cookies; some features may not work without them.

2. How we use information

• Provide transcription, clip generation, editing, storage, and publishing features.
• Authenticate users, enforce alpha access, MFA, and storage quotas.
• Process payments and plans when billing is enabled.
• Monitor abuse, debug failures, and protect the security of the service.
• Communicate about your account, service updates, or support requests.
• Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service.

3. AI and automated processing

To deliver core features, audio and text derived from your uploads may be sent to third-party AI and speech providers for transcription, analysis, caption emphasis, vision review, and thumbnail generation. We configure these providers to process data for service delivery; their own policies apply to their handling of data they receive.

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as follows:

• Service providers — hosting (for example Vercel, Render), database and auth (Supabase), object storage, email, analytics, and AI/speech APIs that help us run Perseus.
• Social platforms — when you connect accounts or publish, we send clip media URLs, captions, and related metadata to the platforms you select (TikTok, Meta, Google/YouTube, etc.) according to your instructions.
• Legal and safety — if required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
• Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice where required.

5. Data retention

• Source uploads: deleted after job processing (plus a limited window for failed/stuck jobs).
• Clips and job data: retained until you delete them or close your account.
• OAuth tokens: retained while an account remains connected; removed on disconnect.
• Logs: retained for a limited period for security and operations.

6. Security

We use industry-standard measures including encryption in transit, access controls, row-level security for user data, and encrypted storage for social tokens. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

7. Your choices and rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal data, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You can:

• Email us to remove completed clips or jobs (see our User Data Deletion page). Abandoned failed jobs are removed automatically after 48 hours.
• Disconnect social accounts in Settings.
• Request account deletion by emailing us (see our User Data Deletion page).

8. International users

Perseus is operated from the United States. If you use the service from other regions, your information may be processed in the U.S. and other countries where our providers operate, which may have different data protection laws than your country.

9. Children

Perseus is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided data and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will post changes on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes may be communicated by email or in-product notice where appropriate.
